Hi ! my name is Matt Cutts. I'm an engineer in the quality group at Google and I'd like to talk today about what happens when you do a web search the first thing to understand is that.

When you do a Google search, you aren't actually searching the web you're searching Google's index of the web or at least as much of it as we can find we do this with software programs called spiders, spiders start by fetching a few web pages then they follow thelinks on those pages and fetch the pages they point to and follow all the links on those pages and fetch the pages they link to and so on until we've indexed a pretty big chunk of the web many billions of pages store across thousands of machines now suppose I want to know how fast a cheetah can run I type in my search say cheetah running speed and hit return our software searches our index to find every page that includes those search terms in this case there are hundreds of thousands of possible results.

How does Google decide which few documents i really want by asking questions more than 200 of them like how many times does this page contains your keywords do the words appear in the title in the URL directly adjacent does the page include synonyms for those words is this page from a quality website or is it low quality even spamming.

4 Techniques for Landing Your Sales Whale

Imagine winning a deal five times bigger than any you’ve closed before. It’s a tantalizing vision -- which is why some reps prioritize high-risk, high-reward prospects.

If you’re not strategic about landing your sales whale, you’ll spend enormous amounts of time and energy on a fruitless endeavor.

These four techniques will help you consistently land large accounts.
How to Land a Target Account

1) Look for a Strategic Way In


If you try to prospect into a major account through the same channels as a normal one, you’ll probably be unsuccessful.

Don’t waste your time knocking on doors that won’t open. Your best bet is asking a referral to introduce you to a champion or the decision maker. To find this contact, look through your LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter networks. You can also ask the executives at your company if they know anyone at the organization you’re targeting -- they might have a connection you can leverage.

What if your search turns up nothing? Try identifying someone within your target company whom you could help. Maybe you notice they just hired a new head of HR. You could send him an email offering to connect him with your company’s head of HR. Once you’ve formed a relationship, ask for an introduction to your prospect.

Alternatively, use an innovative outreach method to get the decision maker’s attention. Stu Heinecke, author of How to Get a Meeting With Anyone, mails personalized cartoons to prospects he wants to meet. The cartoon features the prospect dealing with a relevant business challenge ... a challenge Heinecke can solve.

You could also try asking your prospect to interview them for a blog post. They’ll probably be flattered, and the interviewing them gives you a chance to build rapport and learn how they think. After the post has gone up, you can ask if they’re dealing with X pain point. Provide some helpful suggestions or unique insights, and you’ll likely earn their ear.

2) Qualify Even More Carefully Than Normal

It’s always important to focus on prospects who can truly benefit from your product, rather than anyone with enough budget to buy it. But qualification is even more crucial when you’re going after a big account.

As HubSpot Channel Sales Manager Greg Fung points out, pursuing “whales” comes with a big opportunity cost.

“In the time it takes to land one major deal, you could have closed five smaller deals,” he explains.

Fung won the second-largest deal in HubSpot’s history. Given the risk of investing so much into a single deal, he was extremely diligent about qualifying his prospect.

“I spent a lot of time upfront with the buyer discussing the potential challenges,” Fung says.

Before he decided whether to work the account, Fung made sure his champion had enough authority to push the deal through. He also needed to know the product was an ideal fit for the company’s needs and objectives.

“If I hadn’t known our solution was what they needed, I wouldn’t have possessed the emotional fortitude to keep trying,” Fung says.

The takeaway? Don’t let visions of your commission blind you to reality. Ask yourself:
Will this organization benefit from my product?
Is it feasible for them to implement my product?
Does my champion have enough influence or authority to purchase my product?
Do they have available funding?

By definition, a whale is bigger than your typical customer. However, in all other respects, the account should match your ideal buyer persona.

3) Look for Creative Ways to Help Your Prospect

If you can find an out-of-the-box way to deliver value, you’ve got a much stronger chance of winning your prospect’s trust and gratitude -- and ultimately, their business.

Because the company Fung was targeting had just completed a massive merger, he asked a current customer who had experience with mergers in the same industry if she’d talk to his prospect.

Providing this value transformed Fung into a trusted advisor.

Later, when Fung gave his prospect a demo, he made the unusual decision to bring along several members of the services team.

“I knew [the prospect] was really attracted to our level of service and support, so I wanted him to meet the people who’d handle his account,” Fung says.

Throughout the sales process, look for ways to go above and beyond. Is your prospect struggling with a specific challenge? It might not have anything to do with your product or even industry, but mine your network for people who have expertise in that domain.

You can also try pulling in a member of your executive team. If the buyer is considering other vendors, she’ll take note of the salesperson who brought along their CTO to the presentation.

An innovative value-add will make you stand out and show your prospect you’re a desirable partner.

4) Assemble a Diverse Team

Four or five heads are better than one, especially when you’re targeting a massive account. In Dealstorming, former Yahoo CSO Tim Sanders discusses the powerful results of bringing together people from across your company to brainstorm ideas.

Sanders recommends including employees from your company’s engineering, design, finance, and marketing teams in your meeting. The “dealstorm” group should range from two or three participants up to 12, depending on the size of the deal and its potential impact on your bottom line.

“The more participants in each one, the more idea flow can get interrupted,” Sanders says. “Be judicious about those who are formally part of the team and try to recruit individual representatives from stakeholder groups.”

Wondering how to successfully recruit your coworkers? They don’t immediately benefit from a close. However, look for individual motivators. For instance, if you’re asking a designer to join the team, you might point out working with this client will boost their design portfolio.

After you’ve assembled your group, send out a brief outlining the nature of the deal, the progress you’ve made (if any), and the challenges you’re facing. Ask your participants to consider a specific question in advance. If you’ve discovered the buyer wants a core feature you’re lacking, you might ask, “What workarounds can we devise for X feature?”

Because every team member can offer different expertise and knowledge, you’re much likelier to develop unique solutions.

Landing a whale requires creativity, resilience, bravery, skill, and luck. But it’s not impossible -- especially if you take advantage of these strategies.

Before you say it – no, true guest blogging isn’t dead, despite what you may have heard. Securing a guest post on a reputable site can increase blog traffic to your website and help build your brand into the bargain. Be warned, though – standards for guest blogging have changed radically during the past eighteen months, and spammy tactics could result in stiff penalties. Proceed with caution.

But before we dive into the plight of modern publishers, let’s step back to the innocent days before the Internet.
Let’s imagine you run a toy store where all the products are free. You produce everything yourself, spending your days whittling toy trains, sewing fuzzy teddy bears, and painting tiny smiles on baby dolls. You work hard, but you love your craft.
When you get your first customer, you’re so delighted that you don’t even ask them to pay. When the next customer arrives, you do the same, again, and again, and again. You hand out free toys to every person who walks through your door, until one day you realize you can’t possibly work like this and earn a living at the same time.

You decide to start charging for the toys. After all, you have a dedicated base of satisfied customers, why wouldn’t they want to support your business? It’s a dilemma that digital publishers have struggled with for decades. They’re faced with the question not just of how to earn an income online, but more importantly, how to earn a reliable income so they can build a stable business. While the future may seem bleak for online publishers, the industry has been innovating and experimenting with new ways to make money online.
So, how exactly do publishers earn a living on the web? Here are just a few of the strategies and tools content producers use today:

Subscription-based paywalls

Paywalls and subscriptions go hand-in-hand. With the paywall model, publishers ask readers to pay a recurring fee for to get access to their content. Sites like The New York Times and The Financial Times have opted for a paywall approach to monetize their content. However, according to The Columbia Journalism Review, “only the most essential news providers” can succeed with hard paywalls.
Subscription-based paywalls are favored by some of the biggest publishing sites.
History proves that if readers can find the same content for free somewhere else, they’ll go with the no-cost option. For that reason, hard paywalls just don’t work for most online publishers. If however, a site is well-established enough to offer unique coverage of certain topics, like The Wall Street Journal with finance, then it might be able to succeed with a hard paywall.

Pay-per-view

As an alternative to the subscription-based paywalls, some companies are experimenting with pay-per-view options. Dutch startup Blendle believes readers who don’t want to splurge on a full subscription will likely pay a few cents to read an article.
When new readers access a site using Blendle, they’re prompted to pay a small fee, usually under a dollar. If readers choose to continue, they can accept the price, but they’re only paying for a single article. If they want to read more, they’ll have to pay for each piece of content they consume.
This model works better for casual readers, as it removes the commitment barrier associated with standard paywalls. Still, it forces audiences to pay an upfront fee just to get access to online content, which might not always be a safe bet when free content is everywhere on the web.

Donations

Instead of blocking site content with paywalls, some publishers rely on donations to sustain their businesses. This option lets consumers decide whether or not to give money after they’ve read an article or followed a publisher for some time. Some publishers solicit donations from readers by posting links to PayPal, while others use services likePatreon to make a living.
Patreon lets followers donate at certain tiers, and get rewarded with extra perks as a ‘thank you’ for their support. The company’s model is similar to Kickstarter’s crowdfunding approach. But, instead of helping creators launch one big project, they focus on generating subscription-like donations. The challenge is getting loyal readers to generate enough consistent revenue to support a sustainable business.

Advertising

The tried-and-true method for earning money online, advertising lets publishers offer free content to readers across the web. While some publishers aren’t keen on sharing a portion of their site with third party content, native advertising continues to serve as the best revenue stream for online publishers, as it provides stable income without adding barriers like paywalls.

While advertising revenue tends to be fairly stable, earnings can fluctuate somewhat, as they depend on view events and clicks. With the popularity of ad blockers like AdBlock that prevent advertisements from appearing on users’ browsers, the number of actual ad views is often much lower than publishers might hope. Loved by readers and hated by publishers, these services 
could pose a threat to publishers whose earnings depend on ad revenue.

But when ad blockers get in the way…

The industry keeps on innovating. Given the pervasiveness of online advertising, and the fact that so many publishers rely on ad revenue, the rise of AdBlock might not be such a good thing. After all, if paywalls won’t work for most sites and if stable advertising revenue is cut off, most publishers won’t have a good way to make a living.
That’s why some companies are trying to find a balance between helping publishers earn money and giving readers the experience they want.

Flattr is one company offering an alternative approach to publisher earnings. In partnership with AdBlock, the startup has launched Flattr Plus, a product that lets audiences allocate a monthly budget for online media. Based on a user’s browsing activity and engagement with different sites, Flattr Plus will distribute the allocated sum among different online publishers.
It’s still too early to tell whether or not audiences will adopt something like Flattr Plus, but the partnership shows a promising shift in revenue possibilities for online publishers.

The state of online publishing today

At this point, publishers have only a handful of revenue options to choose from—each with its own benefits and drawbacks. For example, if a publisher wants to create free content, they’ll have to share some site space with advertisers. If they don’t want to earn money through ads, they’ll have to block content with paywalls.
None of these options has proven to be a cure-all for publisher qualms. For most publishers, relying on a single revenue source is not an effective business strategy. With so few revenue options, many publishers choose the middle ground, opting for a compromise between subscriptions, advertisements, and donations.
The reality is that earning a living online is hard to do. When the tradeoff is between making money, creating a positive reader experience, and attracting new readers with open access, online publishers are left with limited options for building a stable business.
For most publishers, there’s still no single solution that will solve their revenue woes, and it’s unclear whether or not that will ever change. Will audiences adopt new technologies and find more ways to compensate publishers, or will ads and paywalls continue to dominate the market?

Make $200 per day with Adsense

OK, so this is one hell of an article.  I’ve been waiting to write for a long time. I didn’t, because when I was about to, Facebook decided to change a lot of things in their algorithm and the whole strategy changed.

This still works and it has changed a little, but you can still make a lot of money and bank hard if you have the budget. I was making from $100 to $350 PER DAY back in 2013 with this whole strategy, and even though it might take more budget now to start, you can still make more than $5-10k per month with this strategy.
In fact, I know some people earning more than $100,000 per month with this and the good things is you can have it as a side business, 100% automated and making money for you. I’ll keep this post updated in case this changes, but I’m sure it still works in july 2014. The faster you start, the better.

Things you need

  • A Website with a VPS or Dedicated server
  • An Adsense account at the beginning, and later an account with a CPM advertising company
  • A Facebook Ads account with credit card or Paypal
  • A Facebook Fan Page and some budget to start. I’d recommend $500 at least. $1,000 – $1,500 per month would be perfect.

How does it work?

The concept is simple, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. Basically, what you’re going to do is to create a viral news website with a basic WordPress installation and send a ton of traffic to it.

How much traffic? Thousands of visitors per day. As much as your budget allows you. Some people send more than 1 millio1n visitors to their website PER DAY. But you don’t need that much. Start with 1k per day and then aim for 5k, 20k and keep growing.


Lastly, the idea is that you generate great (but simple) articles with viral images, videos or stories, and make them go viral with Facebook. When the people visit your blog, they’ll find Google Adsense’s ads and you’ll earn money from the clicks you receive.
I recommend Adsense because the Ads will be totally irrelevant if you use almost any other CPC network, but if Adsense is out of your options for any reasons, try Adversal from this alternatives article.
Sooner or later, you’ll want to move to a CPM based network, but you’ll need at least half a million visits per month to move to the next level. So don’t worry just yet.
I recently explained the reason why Google Adsense beats almost any other alternative, especially if your traffic isn’t organic (i.e. not from search queries). Because we’re going to send a chunk of traffic directly from Facebook, we want somewhat relevant ads even if they’re not coming from search engines, and you know… Google controls a good part of your life, so they can serve decent ads to your audience even if they come from Social Media sites 🙂

Also, be sure to try this even if you’re on a tight budget because I’m going to show you how to earn money with CPA offers (no Adsense or CPC/CPM networks) and make a few extra thousands per month with paid traffic in my next’s week article 😉
Shall we start?
I’ll divide this in 3 steps. You need to rinse and repeat after analyzing your data. I’m glad most of it has been covered and you’ll see that it’s not as difficult as you think, but it takes some time and a good plan with a budget.

Step 1. Create a WordPress Blog

This one is easy. If you’re struggling with this, leave a comment below so I can help you. but you can find almost everything in my blog in the WordPress Category. I cover everything from setting a domain name, installing WordPress and even installing a theme. Again, just leave a comment below if you need help with any step. This shouldn’t take you more than 1-2 hours, if not less.
Don’t forget you need a fast VPS at least to make this work. The Cloud VPS from ASO starts at $30 per month but you can get a 20% discount using the “STREAMSEO20” coupon.
Now the key with Adsense is having great traffic and having a good CTR (Click trough rate). Since Adsense works on a CPC basis, the higher your CTR, the higher your earnings. Trust me, with the quantity of traffic you’re going to send to your blog, increasing your CTR from 3% to 5% could be the difference between $100 and $180 a day. So you NEED a good CTR.
I’ve tested a lot of themes for this, and many of them don’t work. I’ve got my CTR above 10% some times when a story goes viral, but at least, I try to aim to anything above 5%. The theme I used for this and therefore I recommend is: Morning Theme from WP Zoom.
Unluckily, I can’t show you my detailed Adsense earnings because it’s against their TOS, but I promise you’ll have have a great CTR with that theme and you can add your banners with the Quick Adsense plugin.
I recommend you to change your theme every 1-2 months to keep your CTR high. Some other great themes to start are the CTR Theme and the Nexus theme from Elegant Themes.
Having a mobile responsive theme is KEY, since many people will visit your website from FB for Android or iOS, and you want your Ads and videos to look fine there.

Step 2. Create a Facebook Fan Page and grow it


I don’t need to write this whole process again because I wrote it a few months back and almost nothing has changed here. The process is basically the same, but this time you’ll create a Fan Page targeted to all people in a country who like viral stuff and cute/impressive stories. All of the Fan Pages I grew with Facebook Ads are quite active and have great reach.
There are a few changes happening on Facebook lately, so in case you want to take advantage from them:
  • Use Facebook Newsfeed and Mobile Newsfeed Ads! The volume there is super high compared to RHS (Right Hand Sided) Ads.
  • Facebook is rolling out new, bigger RHS ads. They’re bigger and probably a little bit more expensive than before, but the size difference between those and the newsfeed ads isn’t as big as before. You can drive a lot of new likes from RHS too, and the CTR will be high while the competition adapts (you might not even see those new ads yet). The only draw here is that RHS ads are displayed to desktop computers only, but hey, there’s volume on Facebook.
  • Facebook now distributes your ad budget during the day, no matter the time your upload it and get approved. This is super handy because if you start an Ad at 10pm with a budget of $10 per day, Facebook will only spend $1 between 10pm and midnight instead of eating $10 in 1-2 hours with shitty results.
There you have it. Just copy the same strategy from my guide on how to go from 0 to 1000 daily visitors and apply these new advantages. Since we’re going big, I’d recommend a daily ad budget of $10 to start, and then move to $20-30 per day if you can keep your CTR high and new likes coming.

You’ll receive a lot of organic likes too, from people sharing, tagging and liking your posts on Facebook and other social networks. Those are free 🙂

Step 3. Write viral stories and publish them in your Fan Page

This step is easy but takes time. Basically, you’re going to look for viral stories, news and trends and publish them in your blog. What I’d do is spy other competitors and check the stories they publish. Try websites like upworthy and viralnova.
Also, have a close eye on Google trends, as you can get a lot of traffic by being the first to write viral news in your website too.

You’re going to post links AND images every few hours, every single day. I recommend you to post between 3-5 links to your website (that means you ned to write 3-5 viral news PER DAY) and also post 3-5 images in between. The images can be part of viral stories, cute animals or impressive facts. They key is to keep your audience active and your Facebook reach high.
Example: 8am image, 10pm link to article 1, noon image, 2pm link to article 2, 4pm image, 6pm link to article 3, 8pm image, 10pm link to article 4.
NEVER copy & paste their articles into your website unless you want to get banned from Adsense. Rewrite the stories from your own point of view, ad videos or whatever you need, and always link to the sources. Otherwise you’ll have problems in the long run. Trust me.
Also, have a look at the placement and distributions of Ads in those websites, as you want to try the same to get a good CTR. I used to have 1-2 Squared Ads in the content, and a big skyscraper Ad in the sidebar. This is a formula that works well.

Step 4. Rinse, repeat and automate.

You should be able to get everything started in 1-2 days if you focus and work fast. Again, let me know if you have any questions below. Depending on how good your stories are, and the budget you spend on Facebook Ads, you’ll start making some profit after a few days or weeks. The more budget, you spend the faster your Fan Page will grow and the more traffic you’ll send to your website. It’s pure mathematics.
If you grow it big enough to make it a side business or even a full time job for you, then you might want to step it to the next level and automate everything. After all, we want to increase our ROI and still have time to enjoy with family and friends, don’t we?
So here’s what you can do:
Automate your Fan Page posts
There are a lot of social media tools that allow you to schedule your posts on Twitter and Facebook (Buffer and Hootsuite, for example). Most of them actually hurt your reach, so don’t use those. Use FPTraffic.
FPTraffic is a great tool built by an Affiliate Manager from a CPA network and it works really well. You can schedule images (it has an integrated finder), posts, giveaways and more so you don’t need to be in front of your computer every 2 hours to post your article/image. In fact, you can schedule for many days in the future, so it’s perfect for this project.
FPTraffic is a great tool even if you’re not doing this but you have a FB Fan Page for your blog/website. Outsource your article writing
This is something you might want to do after a few weeks or months. Make sure you understand the whole process and then you’ll be able to hire someone to do it for you.
You have already automated your Facebook Fan Page, so you now need to automate your articles and the business will be 100% hands free.
What I did: I hired a content writer and payed him $3 for every post (300-400 words). Since I needed 3-5 posts per day that’s a total of $10-15. Once you start making money and driving a lot of traffic, $10-15 will be less than 10% of your earnings and you’ll be hands free for another business.
Looking for viral stories and videos can be tricky at first, so I looked for the stories and copied the links into a google drive shared document. I’d upload 5 new links every day so the writer could prepare the articles for the next day and publish them. It wasn’t 100% automated, but let’s say I had to spend less than 30 minutes per day in this business to earn $100-300 per day. I was happy with that 🙂

There’s no magic formula

Most people try to look for a magic formula so they can earn money online on autopilot. They want to get free information and pay for a $19.99 Warrior Special Offer that shows them how to make $1,000 per day without doing anything.
Well, that magic formula doesn’t exist.
This is a business, and it requires work and focus, and you might fail a few times, but it will be worth it. Magic formula’s don’t exist, but systems do. And systems work if you’re good enough to analyze and improve your ROI.
But I know most of you won’t be able to achieve this because you won’t take action. Taking action is the most important thing in this life. So bookmark this page or print it or take notes and start your website and Fan Page ASAP! You can do it in 1-3 days maximum and if you start buying likes in 3 days, you could be earning your first bucks by the end of the next week. What are you waiting for?
